1000 marbles

I got this email the other day and it was such a great reminder so i thought i would post it. Enjoy.

A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the garage with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning turned into one of those lessons that life seems to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it:
I turned the dial up into the phone portion of the band on my ham radio in order to listen to a Saturday morning swap net. Along the way, I came across an older sounding chap, with a tremendous signal and a golden voice. You know the kind; he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting business. He was telling whomever he was talking with something about "a thousand marbles." I was intrigued and stopped to listen to what he had to say.
"Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they pay you well but it's a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. It's too bad you missed your daughter's dance recital," he continued; "Let me tell you something that has helped me keep my own priorities." And that's when he began to explain his theory of a "thousand marbles."
"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years.
Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3,900, which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime. Now, stick with me, Tom, I'm getting to the important part.
It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail," he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays. I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy. So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round up 1,000 marbles. I took them home and put them inside a large, clear plastic container right here in the shack next to my gear.
Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on the really important things in life.
There's nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight.
Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign off with you and take my lovely wife out for breakfast. This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure that if I make it until next Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. And the one thing we can all use is a little more time.
It was nice to meet you Tom. I hope you spend more time with your family, and I hope to meet you again here on the band. This is a 75 year old man, K9NZQ, clear and going QRT, good morning!"
You could have heard a pin drop on the band when this fellow signed off. I guess he gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to work on the antenna that morning, and then I was going to meet up with a few hams to work on the next club newsletter.
Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss. "C'mon honey, I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast."

"What brought this on?" she asked with a smile.
"Oh, nothing special, it's just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. And hey, can we stop at a toy store while we're out? I need to buy some marbles."

Dec 6 2009 Yes i think God can even use Dogs.....

its been a while since i have updated so i have lots to share, but i want to first start off with the most recent. yesterday morning as i went to go pick up the kids from grandma Donna's i saw a HUGE German Shepard walking up to my house. i have never seen this dog before and had no idea where he/she came from. ( FYI i get skittish around dogs i don't no, especially big dogs, i blame that on the movie cujo ). so after i got the kids, the dog was still out. my next door neighbor was kind enough to tell the dog to go so the kids and i could get into the garage with out me having an anxiety attack. the dog left, we got in, life is good. after the kids got done with their Saturday chores they wanted to go play out in front, so i decided to be brave and go out to see if the dog was still there. joyfully i saw the dog tied on a leash in our neighbor across the street's garage while his owner was doing yard work. i had not had a chance ( or the guts, i can be pretty shy around new people) to meet our fairly new neighbors at this point, but was glad that this huge monster dog had a home and was not just wondering the street. after seeing that my kids were safe to play outside, out they went . i left the front door open, turned on Christmas music and began to do my chores ( actually i checked my facebook first, but lets not nic-pic) as i was in the middle of enjoying a few minutes of non -fighting kids, all 3 of them rushed in the house slamming the door behind them screaming " awwww huge dog" ( note, my kids loooove dogs, but i have beat it into their heads that if a dog you don't no comes close, get away). i walked out side to see what was going on and the " huge dog's" owner was already out in our front yard leashing his dog. he was sooo apologetic and wanted to make sure the kids where ok. turns out that the dog is a very friendly dog and loves children. ok, so this is where it gets good. so Harry ( my new neighbor i just met and " big dog" owner )and I started chating. i asked him if he had kids, how many, where does he work, stuff like that. apparently his oldest son went to be with the Lord 2 years ago, Harry told me that its still very hard for him but was rejoicing at the fact that 40 people at his son's memorial came to the Lord that day. At this point i realize that he is a Christian ( not just a christian but a true disciple of Christ). we continued to talk about how good our GOD is and then he. started telling me how busy he is during this time of the year. He owns a trucking business and they go up to Oregon to pick up Christmas trees and then bring them to local lots here in town. He asked me and the girls to follow him across the street and showed us a tree that was freshly delivered to his house an hour before. My girls told him that we were going out that night to pick up our tree, but before they could finish Harry told me that he wanted us to have the tree that was in the garage. Carlee and Bridgitte got really excited, but i said thank you for the offer, but we cant take it. Harry then told me that we have to, that he really felt like that is what God wanted him to do. how can you argue with that. so to make a long story short ( well that wasn't really short) we have a beautiful ( free ) Christmas tree and a new friend. what a blessing.

ill post some more updates and pictures soon

our latest outing

i think iam finaly unpacked from our labor day trip... yay.... we had a great time camping with brians brother and his family and his dad. we went up to a place called wishon village. its up near shaver lake. the night before we left town (9/2/09) i had to rush TJ to the urgernt care, he and his sister got into a bit of a disagrement and he hit his head on the soap dish in the shower. 3 stiches later, we got to come home. Tj was greeted with "we love you cards" from both sisters and all kinds of "prizes" on his bed.

the trip it self was great, the weather was perfect and it was so nice to hang out with the family. the kids got to fish and even got to cook there own fish ( thanks to our camping neighbor). carlees favorite part was cutting the head off. the night before we were leaving, we were all siting at the fire pit and then heard a loud cry, we all rushed up to see what was going on, and it was carlee. she went down the hand rail and fell back and hit her head. so we had to rush her to the closest ER ( 2 hours away) and she got her first staple. thank God there was no concusion. she gets to get it taken out tommarow. ill post pics real soon

the latest at the waymires

Last Sunday we got home from a awesome time at the beach. we had many visitors come and visit and lots of time to just hang. it is sooo funny how fast the days go when you are camping and when you are at home doing the same ol stuff they drag on, ill have to remember to ask God about that one day. well we found out today that Luke and Isaac will more than likely be going home sometime after the 31st of August. they will be going to Texas to live with there father. they will be missed but i know that they will be in good hands. i truly think that i bit of more than i could chew with these little guys. iam not sure if its that they are sooo close in age or if its summer and we are so busy or what, but we don't plan on taking in kids that are soo young and that are so close together anytime soon. well on to other news, my babies are getting ready to go back to school : (. the summer went soo fast and i didn't get any of the things that i had planned to get done, but i was there, so iam hoping that that will count for something. TJ ( that is what Tyler wants to be called) will be going to kindergarten and iam very confident that he will do amazing ( he was fortunate enough to attend the preschool at our church which was sooo good for him ) my bridgitte will be going into 2nd and my carlee girl is going into 4th. they are all very excited. so what am i going to do with all this free time??? hopefully get on a regular gym schedule, LBC has a great wed morning bible study so ill defiantly be doing that, maybe garden, and hopefully more organizing.

my new favorite place

so the day after i got back from Hartland, i ran away from home. well not exactly i kind of got kicked out. my girlfriends and i had planned a girls weekend to go to cambria and had it planned for months, well to make a long story short, i found out i was going to Hartland 3 weeks before we where going. so when i got home from Hartland i told my hubby " nope iam not going to cambria, there is way to much to do and i just got home", well to make even a longer story shorter, he told me that if i go to cambria with the girls, i can go get a pedi ( which was sooo needed after a week of camping a flip-flops) so i did, and had a blast. it was Mary, Keir, Karin and i, we left sat morn and came back Sunday night. we had a great drive up there talking about everything under the sun ( including you, j/K ) got up there unpacked and then went to this AMAZING little restaurant and sat out on the patio, after that we took a stroll around town and then went back to Marys house and got ready for dinner. Marys hubby had everything ready for us at there fav restaurant, we got to sit out side and watch the sun set over the beach. that weekend was the best, great friends, great food, great memory's and great pictures and if your lucky i might post them someday ;)

Hartland

so our church goes to a youth summer camp every year and as you all know counselors are needed, well you will never guess who the counselors where this year, give up, it was brian and I. we had such a blast. i had 7 girls ( including my carlee) and he had 6 boys. my wonderful mother in law and auntie helped out with my other two little ones and are extremely thankful they helped out. this was mine and my hubby's first experience at a christian camp. it took us a few to get a hold of the whole "camp" thing, but we had a blast. there where tons of things for the kids to do and they provided great worship and chapel time. we cant not wait for next year.

our pismo trip

we were able to get out of town a few weeks at the end of June and went to pismo. we had such a great time. we took our friends son with us so ty had some fun playing with another boy. we went to some amazing tide-pools with our friends the butts and found all kids of creatures, we even found a baby octopus. the trip was pretty laid back and we tried to relax as much as possible because we knew when we got back it was going to be a bit crazy. the day we left to go to pismo we got to pick up two of the cutest little boys. after i picked them up i went to target to get them some things and then had to drop them off at respite ( which is another foster family house). we all knew it was about to get crazy at the waymire house so we all just took the time to really enjoy the sweet, calm moments in pismo..

oh yeah forgot to mention that a family that brian grew up with was staying at the same campground as us. they are truly amazing. they have i think 17 kids, five of there own and the rest are foster kids or former foster kids they have adopted. they rock. check out there van with all there stick figures

awww, i know i know i have not been a good blogger lately, but we have been crazy busy. so i never mentioned little Mikey on my blog so i thought this would be a great time. As most of you know we do foster care. well 6 days before we had to give up our little "B" we got this darling little 3 yr old. we where told we would have him for at least 6 months, but i don't think they ever really know. we only had him for 1 month and he was such a great kid. he really took to Brian and got along with my kids pretty good

HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO AN AMAZING MAN

Where do i start to begin about telling you about my amazing hubby???? I have been married to Brian for going on 9 years ( it will be 9 in September) We started out against the odds, we had a child, we where very young, i was a christian ( a very new christian) and he wasnt, and we where (are) total opposites of each other. Iam soooo lucky that God new more than us. My husband is my best friend, a great father, and a wonderful husband. We have both grown soo much since the day we said i do. I feel so blessed that i can be proud that my children have him as a father. Even though he works all day, he still makes the time to coach the kids ( sometimes all three at once) teach them, and even tuck them in to bed at night. I love the fact that after nine years, 3 kids and lots of other stuff, iam still soo in love with him. Thank you babe, for being such an amazing man. I am so thankful for all the things God has done in your life including allowing me to be your wife. Happy Fathers Day

just checking in

Things at the Waymire house is pretty much the same. Softball is now in full swing, they had there first practice last night. We where all planning to go, but that would mean we would have had to take sally ( our suburban, yes we name our cars don't you ;) ) and she is low on gas so instead Bridgitte, Tyler, baby B and i took a walk to the park to play and feed the ducks. GOOD TIMES. We have been here at the same house for going on 9 years and this is the first year that i realized that all the Geese and duck eggs at our neighborhood park hatch around this time. We have had a great time watching all the little babies follow there mama and grow
